Preparing for a Web Site
What is a content management system (CMS)?
It is software that allows the average person to create content, send newsletters, add calendar events, manage blogs and forums, without knowing html. Imagine being free of your office computer, because with a CMS, you can change the content of your web site from any Internet connected computer in the world.
Choosing a Web Host
The research you do regarding this very important decision can save you thousands of dollars and a lot of heartache. A web host rents you space to place your web site on their servers that are connected to the Internet. Hosting fees can vary greatly so you should do some comparison shopping. You don't necessarily want to go with the cheapest host. You want to identify your needs and shop for a host who meets those needs while providing you support services at a fair price.
Buying a Domain Name
Owning your own domain name (www.yourname.com) is one of the most important components of your Internet presence. Your domain name can be the difference between success or failure. Try to incorporate what you do or sell into your domain name. Search engines give more weight to web sites that have the search term in the URL. For example, if I sell Native American shawls, a good domain name would be www.NativeAmericanShawls.com
